Get to Know a Board Member
|
We will be spotlighting the public servants who guide our school district in a new spotlight series called "Get to Know a Board Member." This week we will begin with our board president Colleen Klimczak!
|
Colleen is in her sixth year on the board and has lived in Evergreen Park for 29 years. She stays very active as a parent, board member, volunteer, and a business owner but she is a voracious reader who loves to travel. She is also a musician who enjoys making music.
Some of the things she loves include her family, a good joke, dark chocolate, singing, organizing, cooking and baking, serving others, and learning new things.
When asked why she loves serving on the board she says:
"All three of my children had great experiences in D124 schools, and I wanted to be a part of the good work moving forward. I love the big picture planning and implementation that we as a board are responsible for, but I also love walking through our schools and talking to our students and teachers!"
Colleen has done a lot during her time on the board and is most proud of how the district handled the COVID-19 pandemic with buildings opening for back to school in the fall of 2020 with in-person learning with precautions. She cites the hard work of teachers and administrators in that process.
Thank you Colleen for everything you do for our district!

Positive Behavioral Interventionists & Supports at D124
|
As a district, D124 has a strong focus on Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) as a framework to establish a strong climate and culture where social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health supports are provided for all students. This type of support is built into our strategic plan and work is happening now to work toward these goals.
A District and Community Leadership Team (DCLT) has been created in conjunction with MidWest PBIS as a key partner in our Evergreen CARES program. There has also been professional development focused on PBIS and strong collaboration with the Center for Self Actualization and other partners.
Next steps include implementing a framework with training provided and completing an inventory and survey to gather more data as the DCLT continues to meet.
This work will provide a wonderful system of support for our staff and students and we are so grateful for the work that is being done!

We had a great Institute Day for our teachers and staff in January that featured author and educator Greg Wolcott who presented on his book "Significant 72: Unleashing the Power of Relationships in Today's Schools." The presentation featured information on how to develop positive relationships between teachers and students with strategies in the classroom.
|
Dr. Jenna Woodland and Director of Student Support Services Rebecca Tyrrell discussed Student Support Services and how D124 is working to provide excellent educational support to all of our students during the latest episode of the #WeConnect Webinar Series. You can watch the video on YouTube to see the discussion.

Often during the winter months, we are faced with the potential use of emergency days either for snow or even frigid temperatures. Historically, these days have then had to be made up at the end of the school year, requiring amendments to the school calendar. In December 2021 our school board approved the district E-Learning Plan, which enables students to continue their learning on emergency days, remotely. This prevents the need for additional make-up days in June. Review the documents on our website for further guidance on what is expected if one of these days becomes necessary.

Conozca a una miembro de la junta
|
